Job summary

Diagnostic World in Leicester is seeking an experienced Advanced Practitioner Sonographer to join our diagnostic team. You will perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations, report findings, and contribute to patient care across client partners while working independently and with colleagues to uphold high clinical governance standards.

Advanced Practitioner Sonographer

Location: Leicester

Salary: £48,000 - £60,000 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Reporting to: Head of Operations

We are looking for an experienced Advanced Practitioner Sonographer to join our team in Leicester. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Sonographer who is confident working independently, providing high-quality ultrasound examinations and producing accurate clinical reports.

You will play an important role in delivering a comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound service while maintaining the highest standards of clinical care, governance and patient experience.

The Role

As an Advanced Practitioner Sonographer, you will be responsible for providing diagnostic ultrasound services to patients on behalf of Diagnostic World and our client partners.

You will work independently while collaborating with other Sonographers and healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive safe, efficient and high-quality care.

Day-to-Day Duties
  • Perform a range of ultrasound examinations, including: General abdominal, Gynae, Pelvic, Small parts, Vascular, MSK, Early Pregnancy, where appropriately trained
  • Independently perform ultrasound examinations to the required clinical and quality standards.
  • Produce clear and accurate clinical reports for each examination.
  • Manage ultrasound lists and prioritise patients effectively.
  • Communicate with GPs, referrers and other healthcare professionals where required.
  • Undertake any necessary administrative duties to support the efficient progression of patients and results, including patient escalations.
  • Participate in clinical governance, clinical audits and quality assessments.
  • Maintain an up-to-date CPD portfolio and ensure professional knowledge and skills remain current.
  • Carry out relevant equipment checks and report any equipment faults to the appropriate manager.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures relating to health and safety, confidentiality and data protection are followed.
  • Assist with the investigation of complaints and untoward incidents where required.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews and appraisals.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the service operates effectively.
Additional / Ad-Hoc Responsibilities

You may also be required to:

  • Provide second opinions on discrepancy cases.
  • Provide professional advice relating to complaints or incidents.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new Sonographers.
  • Assist with the induction of new team members on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Represent the company at relevant events, including BMUS stands.
About You

We are looking for an experienced and confident Sonographer who is able to work independently and provide expert clinical opinion across a broad range of ultrasound examinations.

Essential Requirements
  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers, BSc (Hons) Radiography or equivalent qualification.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound, or an equivalent overseas qualification.
  • Full registration with the appropriate professional governing body, such as HCPC, with SoR voluntary registration desirable.
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
  • Ability to work independently across the main areas of ultrasound practice.
  • Ability to scan and report independently.
  • Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a range of ultrasound procedures.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage ultrasound lists and competing priorities.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with GPs, referrers and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A professional, enquiring and critical approach to your work.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development, clinical governance and audit.
  • Willingness to work within company performance frameworks and quality standards.
  • Appropriate professional indemnity insurance for the work undertaken.
Desirable
  • Up to 5 years' post-qualification experience gained within the UK.
  • Experience working within an NHS Trust.
  • Experience of clinical audit.
  • Experience in additional specialist areas of ultrasound, including vascular, MSK or Early Pregnancy.
