Job summary

The Jarvis Breast Centre in Guildford is seeking an Advanced Practitioner to work within the NHS Breast Screening Programme across Surrey. The role focuses on screening and interventional mammography, including stereotactic biopsies, with reporting and trainee teaching.

You will rotate across the static unit and five mobile vans, requiring a full UK driving licence and travel between sites at least three days per week.

Qualifications

• One or both clinical modules: mammographic image interpretation and reporting, or X-ray guided interventional breast procedures.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites at least three days a week.
• Experience with NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) is advantageous.

Job description

This Advanced Practitioner post sits in the breast screening team at The Jarvis Breast Centre in Guildford, serving the NHS Breast Screening Programme across Surrey. The work centres on screening and interventional mammography, including stereotactic biopsies, with reporting and trainee teaching. Work runs as a rota across the static unit and five mobile vans, requiring a full UK driving licence and travel between sites at least three days a week. Applicants need one or both clinical modules: mammographic image interpretation and reporting, or X-ray guided interventional breast procedures.

What the job involves

• Undertake NHSBSP screening mammograms, including those required during interventional breast imaging
• Perform stereotactic guided interventional procedures, including diagnostic and excision biopsy
• Double report breast screening mammograms, working towards the national requirement of 5,000 cases a year
• Participate in NHSBSP film reading and reporting under national and local protocols
• Teach, supervise and mentor postgraduate radiographers and associate practitioners on mammography training
• Take part in the departmental quality assurance programme
• Diagnose and report complex breast imaging, recognising normal and abnormal pathology across modalities
• Give evidence-based advice to colleagues and support consultants in MDT meetings
• Take verbal and written consent for interventional procedures
• Administer drugs and medicines within the governance structure, and manage any reactions
• Provide high-quality care to patients with, at risk of, or diagnosed with breast pathology
• Work alongside the multidisciplinary team across static and mobile sites on a rota
