Job summary

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is seeking an Advanced Pharmacist (Medicine or Surgery) to advance clinical practice and lead medicines optimisation across services. You will work closely with Principal and Associate Chief Pharmacists, supporting junior staff and driving safe, cost-efficient medicine use.

The role emphasises leadership, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and development of clinical pathways, with involvement in weekend, on-call duties and service development.

Qualifications

• Significant experience with different clinical teams and as a prescriber.
• Ability to train and support junior pharmacists, technicians and other MDT members.
• Strong Medicines Optimisation and clinical leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert medicines optimisation across medicine services.
• Provide clinical leadership and strategic direction.
• Lead medicines governance activities and prescribing guidance development.
• Develop clinical pathways and prescribing guidance.
• Collaborate across primary, secondary and community care interfaces.
• Develop and support innovative pharmacy practice, including prescribing and digital medicines management systems.
• Supervise, mentor and develop pharmacists, trainee pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
• Participate in weekend, late duty and on-call services.
