Job summary

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Emergency Nurse Practitioner in a secondment/fixed term contract to provide advanced autonomous nursing care in the Emergency Department across our sites in Bedford and Luton.

The post involves independent prescribing, clinical leadership, and role modelling, with responsibility for minor injuries and illnesses, ensuring safe discharge and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Professional registration required (NMC).
• Minor injury qualification at BSc/MSc level is desired.
• Independent non-medical prescribing eligibility or qualification.
• Teaching qualification is desirable.
• IRMER, ILS/PILS and advanced emergency care qualifications (ALS/APLS/EPALs) are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, treat and refer patients with minor injuries autonomously within NMC guidelines.
• Prescribe where necessary within professional scope.
• Lead and coach nursing teams and provide clinical leadership in the department.
• Plan workload and ensure service delivery across shifts and hours.
• Promote compassionate, evidence-based care aligned with Trust values.
• Collaborate with ED colleagues to maintain high standards and continuity of care.
• Support service development and drive improvements in minor injury care.
