Randstad CPE is seeking an hands-on R&D Advanced Power Systems Technician to work onsite in Peterborough on a 12-month contract. You will perform build, strip, rebuild, and testing activities across cutting-edge powertrain projects, including electric motor testing and transmission development.

The role requires 2–3 years post-apprenticeship experience, a solid diagnostics background, and a clean UK driving licence. Onsite work with 37 hours/week, £20 per hour pay rate.

Qualifications

  • Completed Modern Apprenticeship (Mechanical or Electrical) or an equivalent technical qualification (e.g., BTEC / ONC / HNC).
  • 2-3 years of post-apprenticeship hands-on experience in a mechanical/electrical testing, workshop, or R&D environment.
  • Strong background in diagnostics, fault-finding, mechanical fitting, and reading technical drawings/wiring diagrams.
  • Full clean UK driving licence and valid passport.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on mechanical and electrical build, strip, rebuild, diagnostic, and repair activities on prototype power systems.
  • Run test bed software, carry out test plans, and support data logging/analysis under the guidance of lead engineers.
  • Perform electrical safety and insulation checks using diagnostic and service tools.
  • Identify, report, and help resolve technical or product quality issues.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Health & Safety standards, standard work instructions, and safe workshop practices.

R&D Advanced Power Systems Technician


Location: Peterborough


Pay Rate: £20.00 per hour


Employment Type: 12-Month Contract (Fully Onsite)


Working Hours: 37 hours per week (Day Shift)


Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on R&D Technician to join an advanced powertrain division. In this role, you will work on cutting-edge projects including electric motor testing, hybrid powertrain development, and transmission development programmes. You will support build, strip, rebuild, and testing activities across a range of emerging technologies.


Key Responsibilities


  • Conduct hands-on mechanical and electrical build, strip, rebuild, diagnostic, and repair activities on prototype power systems.

  • Run test bed software, carry out test plans, and support data logging/analysis under the guidance of lead engineers.

  • Perform electrical safety and insulation checks using diagnostic and service tools.

  • Identify, report, and help resolve technical or product quality issues.

  • Maintain strict adherence to Health & Safety standards, standard work instructions, and safe workshop practices.


Requirements


  • Education/Training: Completed Modern Apprenticeship (Mechanical or Electrical discipline) or an equivalent technical qualification (e.g., BTEC / ONC / HNC).

  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of post-apprenticeship, hands-on experience in a mechanical/electrical testing, workshop, or R&D environment.

  • Technical Skills: Strong background in diagnostics, fault-finding, mechanical fitting, and reading technical drawings/wiring diagrams.

  • Soft Skills: Problem-solving mindset, clear communication skills, high reliability, and the ability to work well independently and in a team.

  • Requirements: Full clean UK driving licence and valid passport.
