Job summary

Leicester City Council’s Adult Education Centre is seeking qualified tutors to deliver face-to-face and online courses for adult learners. The role is part-time (up to 6 hours per week) and uses a blended learning approach with travel across the city.

You will design and deliver structured lessons, monitor attendance and progress, and tailor resources to individual learning needs. Essential qualifications include Level 3 teaching, aiming for Level 5, plus GCSE English/Maths and STL/Early Years

Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher with a Level 3 qualification minimum and plan to progress to Level 5.
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent as a baseline.
  • Experience in school settings and with adult learners.

Leicester Adult Education offer a large and diverse programme of further education qualification courses as well as extensive community-based provision. We have a diverse, enthusiastic student community, taught and supported by well-qualified staff. Supporting Teaching and Learning qualifications are a vital aspect of today's world of work. Our provision in this area is expanding, and we need qualified tutors with the passion and motivation to help us move forward and provide the best learning experience possible for our adult learners across the city. This is a fantastic opportunity for suitably qualified, dedicated, and skilled adult tutors to join our successful team. As an inspirational and motivated adult tutor, you'll provide a high-quality learning experience that promotes achievement and learner progression. The hours of work are up to 6 hours per week and you'll be mainly based at Adult Education College or teaching online as part of our blended learning approach. However, you'll also be able to travel to a variety of settings across the city and will be required work outside of normal office hours to provide learning opportunities to a broad range of groups.

What you’ll be doing As an experienced tutor, you'll prepare and deliver face-to-face and on-line courses to adult learners, ensuring that learning is properly structured, reflects current good practice and that assessment is robust to meet the demands of quality assurance. You'll evaluate and provide continuous improvement to your teaching practice and have in place strategies that ensure maximum attendance, retention and achievement. You'll select appropriate resources, as well as use teaching methods and styles which promote active learning, to ensure that learners achieve their full potential in their learning journey.

What you’ll need You'll have excellent communication, interpersonal and administrative skills. Using your expertise and creativity, you'll be able to identify individual learning needs to design and plan lessons accordingly, ensuring successful outcomes for learners are achieved. You'll have the necessary knowledge and proficient IT skills to use relevant software packages and ILT to teach both in the classroom and online using Google Classroom and Meet. In addition, you will have the required qualifications which include: a teaching qualification at minimum Level 3, with a commitment to work towards a Level 5, and English and Maths qualifications at GCSE or equivalent. You will have experience of working in a school setting. You will also need to be qualified to at least Level 3 STL or Early Years and have experience of working with adults and children. Appointment is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
