Job summary

Leicester City Council is seeking tutors to deliver English Functional Skills to adult learners at the Adult Education Centre in a blended teaching environment. The role is part-time (approx. 2.5 hours per session) with term-time hours and a pro-rata salary.

You will plan engaging lessons, monitor progress, and use technology such as Google Classroom and Google Meet. Flexibility to travel to settings within the city and occasional evenings are expected.

Qualifications

• Teaching experience in English Functional Skills or similar programmes.
• Ability to plan and deliver both face-to-face and online lessons.
• Proficiency with learning technologies and virtual classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver English Functional Skills courses to adult learners, face-to-face and online.
• Maximise attendance, retention and achievement across courses.
• Monitor learner progress and outcomes; use Google Classroom, Google Meet and other tools.
• Participate in meetings, CPD sessions, enrolment, and exam support.

You’ll plan and deliver both face-to-face and on-line English Functional Skills course to adult learners using engaging resources and teaching methods which encourages active learning. You’ll maximise attendance, retention and achievement as well as monitor learning to ensure outcomes and success rates are achieved. In addition, you’ll confidently use technology in and outside the classroom such as Google Classroom, Google Meet and other applications. You’ll attend regular meetings, CPD sessions, enrolment sessions, and assist in exams.

Qualifications:

• Subject specific qualification at an appropriate level
• Teaching qualification at Level 3 or above
• Teaching qualification at Level 5 or willingness to work towards it
• Minimum GCSE A to C or equivalent English qualification

You’ll be based at the Adult Education College however you’ll be required to travel to settings and schools across the city or teach online as part of our blended learning approach. You’ll be able to work outside of normal office hours, including evenings. Appointment will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
