Job summary

Derbyshire County Council’s Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service (DACES) is recruiting tutors to work in centres across Derbyshire and online. We welcome applicants who can teach family learning, employability, supported learning, digital skills, mental health first aid, building stronger communities, first aid and cookery.

As an ad hoc tutor pool member, you can build a pattern of work course-by-course, making this role suitable for varying hours and timetables.

Qualifications

• Hold an adult teaching qualification and a recognised subject specialist qualification.
• Have experience of work with adults and/or young people.
• Have experience of delivering subject content.
• Be able to maintain engagement, interaction and motivation of learners.
• Be committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and British Values.

Responsibilities

• Deliver courses across Derbyshire and online in the listed subject areas.
• Support learners to achieve learning goals and progress.
• Contribute to ongoing development of teaching practice through mentoring and CPD.

Adult Tutor - Tailored learning

Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service (DACES) is looking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced tutors to work in our centres across Derbyshire and online. We are particularly keen to hear from people who can teach any of the following subject areas.

• Family learning - Courses which equip parents and carers to support their children’s learning and development.
• Employability - Courses which provide adult learners with the skills needed to access employment, education, training or self-employment, or to progress in their current role.
• Supported learning - Courses which support adults with learning disabilities to develop skills, confidence, independence and wellbeing.
• Digital skills - Courses which improve IT skills needed for life or work including online safety and supporting families with safe IT use, essential digital skills and how to use digital devices.
• Mental Health First Aid - Courses which provide the skills and knowledge needed to support others with their mental health and wellbeing.
• Building stronger communities - Courses which help learners develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to contribute to and strengthen their local communities.
• First aid - Courses which provide the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond effectively to common first aid situations and emergencies.
• Cookery - Courses which develop the skills needed to prepare healthy, affordable meals and snacks.

Once appointed to the tutor pool, tutors can build a working pattern to suit on a course‑by‑course basis. This makes the role ideal for both those who only want to work a few hours a week and those who want to build a more substantive role and timetable of classes.

We have centres for course delivery in the following areas including outreach throughout Derbyshire. At interview you will be asked which areas you would be willing to travel to.
