Job summary

Bath & North East Somerset Council's Adoption West team is recruiting a Support Worker for the Adoption Support Helpdesk. You will answer enquiries, provide initial assessments for adoptive families and support them in crisis.

The role offers flexible working with an office base in Bristol, Gloucester or Trowbridge and home working, travel across the region, and a chance to develop services for children and families.

Qualifications

• A levels / National Diploma
• Ability to prioritise tasks and work on own initiative against deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven negotiation skills especially with upset customers
• Self-sufficient in planning and organising own work, including recording data
• Awareness of Government initiatives in relation to Adoption best practice
• Active team player contributing to service development
• Good IT skills
• Fluent in English
• Driving licence and access to a vehicle
• Experience of working with children and/or families

Responsibilities

• The Support Worker will operate within the adoption support service.
• Answer enquiries, provide support and undertake initial assessments for adoptive families contacting the Adoption Support Helpdesk.
• Support families in crisis and provide information about adoption support services and processes.
• Signpost to external services including education and health.
• Advise on therapeutic parenting and liaise with the Senior Practitioner and Manager daily.
• Undertake allocated tasks as required.
