Job description

We are currently recruiting for an Administrator to join our client's busy operational team based in Barnsley.


This is a varied role supporting the day-to-day running of a Highways Lighting and New Business team. You'll play an important part in keeping work organised and on track, from scheduling and coordinating activities through to maintaining documentation, updating systems and supporting customers.


We're looking for someone who is organised, proactive and confident working in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience within utilities, highways, street lighting, engineering or construction would be advantageous, although strong administration or customer service experience is the main requirement.


What you'll be doing


  • Providing day-to-day administrative support to the operational team.

  • Scheduling, coordinating and tracking work using internal systems.

  • Preparing and maintaining documentation and accurate records.

  • Raising purchase orders and processing invoices.

  • Keeping systems and data accurate and up to date.

  • Handling customer queries and supporting the resolution of issues and complaints.

  • Communicating with colleagues, customers and external stakeholders.

  • Monitoring workloads and deadlines to ensure customer requirements are met.

  • Supporting the coordination of works, engineers, field teams or appointments.

  • Gathering information and following issues through to resolution.

  • Supporting continuous improvements to processes and ways of working.


What we're looking for


  • Previous experience within administration and/or customer service.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.

  • Good Microsoft Office and general IT skills.

  • Confidence learning and using new systems.

  • Excellent attention to detail when working with documentation, records and data.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A professional and customer-focused approach.

  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to take ownership of issues.

  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Good numerical skills and confidence working with information and data.

  • A positive, proactive and enthusiastic approach.


Desirable experience

It would be particularly beneficial if you have:



  • Experience within utilities, highways, street lighting, energy, engineering, construction or a similar operational environment.

  • Experience raising purchase orders and processing invoices.

  • Experience using asset management, works management or scheduling systems.

  • Experience coordinating works, engineers, field teams or appointments.

  • Knowledge of Street Works or permitting processes.
