Job summary

Aspire People are seeking an Additional Needs Support Assistant for a specialist SEND school in Lancashire. You will assist pupils with SLD, PMLD and autism, helping with communication, development and wellbeing in a nurturing environment.

Working alongside teachers and therapists, you will deliver planned activities, support personal care and help pupils develop independence. Term-time hours are 08:30–15:30, with opportunities for ongoing progression.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND
  • Ability to work in a school setting
  • Commitment to safeguarding and safeguarding training

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Deliver planned learning activities and adapt to individual needs
  • Assist with personal care (toileting, dressing, eating)
  • Support therapy programmes and administer medication following training
  • Encourage communication using Makaton and PECS
  • Promote social, emotional, physical and cognitive development
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
  • Support positive behaviour strategies and physical interventions where trained
  • Prepare classroom resources and maintain a stimulating environment
  • Support pupils during snack times, outdoor learning and trips
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, parents and external professionals
  • Support Post-16 pupils in developing independent living skills

A specialist SEND school is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Additional Needs Support Assistant to support pupils with SLD, PMLD and autism.

The Role:

You’ll help pupils overcome barriers to learning while supporting their communication, development, independence, social skills and emotional wellbeing in a safe, nurturing environment.

Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals, you will:

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Deliver planned learning activities and adapt support to individual needs
  • Assist with personal care, including toileting, dressing and eating
  • Support therapy programmes and administer medication following training
  • Encourage communication using Makaton, PECS and assistive technology
  • Promote social, emotional, physical and cognitive development
