Job summary

Urmston Primary School invites applications for a Temporary Teaching Assistant 1 SEN to support a child on a one-to-one basis and possibly take on other TA duties. 30 hours across 38 weeks (term time only). Pro rata salary £18,620–£20,163 with Band 3 point 6–11; closing date 9 October 2026, 12 Noon; interviews the week of 12 October 2026.

Contract runs until 18 December 2026 with potential for extension. DBS and satisfactory pre-employment checks required.

Qualifications

• Be qualified to at least Level 2 TA/LSA or equivalent.
• Have a high level and understanding and experience of working with children and young people with SEND particularly ASC.
• Have a strong awareness and understanding of sensory need and the varied ways of meeting needs of young people.
• Have a calm, patient and friendly manner and approach
• Have excellent skills in terms of classroom practice with a proven track record in a primary school of supporting young people with additional needs.
• Have high expectations of children's learning and behaviour
• Be committed, flexible and enthusiastic
• Be an effective team member
• Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Have a keen sense of fun and enjoyment of life!

Responsibilities

• The post is specifically to support a child on a one-to-one basis when necessary but the role may also include other TA roles and responsibilities.
• The ideal candidate will know when and how to be flexible and adapt to different situations, but be skilled at utilising a timetabled set of support strategies.
