Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a compassionate Phlebotomist to join the Phlebotomy Service covering inpatient wards within Clyde Sector. You will collect blood samples by venepuncture, identify patients accurately, and ensure timely delivery to laboratories to support patient care.

Two 10-hour posts across Monday to Sunday with base at Royal Alexandra Hospital; travel between RAH and IRH sites is essential.

Qualifications

• Educated to Standard Grade level or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to reassure and support patients from a range of backgrounds.
• Strong team working skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff.
• Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet service deadlines.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail when identifying patients and handling samples.
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently when required.
• Ability to work in a busy healthcare environment while maintaining professionalism and patient-focused care.

Responsibilities

• Support the safe and timely delivery of blood specimens to laboratories to meet service requirements.
• Work closely with clinical colleagues, ward staff and phlebotomy team leaders to deliver an effective service.
• Adhere to infection prevention, health and safety, incident reporting and patient confidentiality policies.
• Monitor and maintain stock levels of essential phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
• Provide flexible support and cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave or absence.

Job description

The Role

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a direct difference to patient care every day? NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a compassionate, reliable and motivated Phlebotomist to join our dedicated Phlebotomy Service covering inpatient wards within Clyde Sector.

The post holder will work as part of a team providing venepuncture services for all specialities across both RAH and IRH sites. You will work to ensure target times are met and adhered to, for the prompt delivery of blood samples to the laboratories.

The post holder must have excellent timekeeping and communication skills, be flexible and adaptable, and work well both within a team and independently, using their own initiative.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

• There are two 10-hour posts available, though variable hours may be considered
• Across Monday to Sunday
• Base location is Royal Alexandra Hospital
• Ability and willingness to travel between both RAH and IRH sites frequently is essential for this post
• Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours
