Job summary

Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Activity Coordinator to support leisure-based activities on a female ward, coordinating with the Occupational Therapy team and the ward MDT. The role involves planning, resource preparation and patient engagement on a rota basis including weekends.

The post involves liaising with therapies and nursing staff, supervising volunteers, and ensuring confidentiality, safety, and accurate record-keeping in a busy ward environment.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with the ward MDT and therapies team to plan recreational activities.
• Lead on recreational activities with groups and individuals.
• Prepare activity resources and equipment before patients arrive.
• Advise on supplies and stock shortages for activities.
• Develop rapport with patients to involve them in participation decisions.
• Collaborate with nursing, psychiatry, physiotherapy and dietetics for the therapeutic timetable.
• Identify opportunities to involve volunteers and train them to deliver activities.
• Observe patient behaviour and responses to activities.
• Be aware of situations that may make patients vulnerable or at risk.
• Report concerns immediately to qualified staff.
• Respect patient choices and confidentiality; record interventions in a standard format.
• Ensure engagement and therapeutic observations with the ward MDT.
• Attend Occupational Therapy meetings as required.
• Attend ward MDT Meetings as required.
• Undertake annual appraisal and contribute to supervision.
• Comply with policies for annual leave, sickness and time owing.
