Job summary

Kestrel Ward, part of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, is seeking an Activity Coordinator to enhance wellbeing for young people on an inpatient unit in North Wales. You will plan and run a variety of activities, supporting recovery and engagement.

You will work closely with service users and the ward team, delivering creative, therapeutic and recreational activities while upholding person-centred care and safeguarding standards.

Qualifications

We are looking for an Activity Coordinator to join the NWAS team and play a key role in enhancing the wellbeing and recovery of our service users. This role is central to creating a positive Ward environment by planning, delivering and encouraging participation in a wide range of meaningful activities that reduce boredom and promote engagement. You will work primarily alongside service users, supporting them through creative, therapeutic and recreational activities, while also becoming an integral member of the wider Ward Team, contributing to holistic, person‑centred care.

Kestrel Ward is a 12 bedded General Adolescent Inpatient Unit, serving the North Wales and North Powys areas. We are committed to further developing our service to provide excellent and collaborative care with our service users, through participation in activity, recovery and gaining feedback of the service user experience. Qualifications And/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant subject area.
  • Significant experience in a health care or education setting or experience in an CAMHS setting.
  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent or willingness to undertake within 18 months in post.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with individuals with mental health needs in a health or education setting.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working with young people between the ages of 12-18 with complex needs including Mental health, Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental conditions.

Aptitude And Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable criteria

  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
  • Previous experience in delivering group activities.
  • Knowledge or experience of working with 3rd sector organisations.
  • Experience of working closely with and delegating tasks to others.
