Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales is recruiting a Community Nursery Nurse for the Flying Start Health Visiting Service in Bethesda. This fixed term/secondment post is 22.5 hours per week and runs until 31 March 2027.

Welsh language ability is essential and applicants must obtain line manager permission before applying. You will support Health Visitors, deliver health promotion, and work with families to enhance child health in home and community settings.

Qualifications

  • Experience in community health or working with children and families is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Health Visitors in delivering health promotion in home, clinic and community settings.
  • Contribute to implementation of the Core Programme under supervision.
  • Carry out delegated care programmes or follow up health issues at home or in clinic after HV assessment.
  • Undertake screening and health-related and developmental assessments as directed by the Health Visitor.
  • Refer to appropriate agencies in collaboration with the Health Visitor.
  • Promote evidence-based practice in health and wellbeing and support families to meet children's health needs.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative Community Nursery Nurse to join our Flying Start Health Visiting Service in Bethesda, North Wales. We are looking for a self-motivated team player who has excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job
  • Support Health Visitors in delivering health promotion within home, clinic and other community based settings as agreed.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the delivery of the Core Programme as per Health Board service level agreement and directed by the Health Visitor.
  • Following initial assessment by HV the Community Nursery Nurse will carry out delegated programmes of care or follow up health issues at home or in clinic.
  • Undertake screening and/or other health related and developmental assessments as and when directed by the Health Visitor.
  • Refer to appropriate agencies in collaboration with the Health Visitor.
  • Ensure the delivery of evidence-based practice in order to facilitate effective care. Includes issues relating to health and wellbeing e.g. diet; safety; dental care etc.
  • Work with parents to increase their knowledge and skills to enable them to identify and meet their own and children’s health needs under the supervision of the Health Visitor.
  • Work in partnership with service users and providers; attend client participation groups, social services meetings as directed by the Health Visitor.
  • Work in partnership with the community, statutory and voluntary agencies in the provision and development of individual and community initiatives as directed by the Health Visitor.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Duties may include:

  • Building on existing assessment of families needs and deliver packages of planned care with no direct supervision.
  • To provide and receive complex and sensitive child related information from health and social care staff.
  • To decline referral if not appropriate which requires excellent negotiation skills and appropriate sign posting.
  • Support to clients with more complex/additional needs.
  • To demonstrate ability for motivation and behaviour change with children and families enabling self-efficacy, resilience and strength based relationship.
  • To recognise and report any health and safety or risk issues.
  • To write records in a concise, accurate and timely manner in line with GDPR guidance and BCU local polices.
  • To independently carry out specified assessment and intervention as allocated and discussed with the Health Visitor/ School Nurse and using own initiative and experience to modify according to the clients needs.
  • To hold own caseload with support from Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) for those families with planned packages of care.
  • To hold a special interest role and support other staff within the locality and service.
  • To promote peoples equality, diversity and rights.
  • To contribute to the care of all clients, ensuring safety and dignity at all times.

Experience

  • Community experience
  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families
  • Able to undertake autonomous and independent work
  • A comprehensive and sound awareness of child development
  • Understanding of the public health agenda

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working within the health visiting and school nursing services
  • Experience or awareness of multi disciplinary agencies
