Job summary

Askham Bryan College in York is seeking an enthusiastic Accounts Assistant Apprentice to join the Finance team and develop a career in finance while working toward a recognised qualification.

You will support day-to-day financial operations, assisting with cashbook, accounts payable/receivable, and supplier invoices, while gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of accounting activities.

Job Title: Accounts Assistant Apprentice

Location: York

Contract Type: Full-Time – 37hrs, Permanent

Salary: £8 per hour - National Apprenticeship Rate. (This is an apprenticeship starting rate with a view to increase to SP17 - £24,767 per annum, after a successful probation).

About the role:

Askham Bryan Collegeis seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Accounts Assistant Apprentice to join our Finance team at our York campus.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in finance gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of accounting and administrative activities while working towards a recognised qualification.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will support the day-to-day financial operations of the College, helping to deliver an efficient and professional finance service to staff, students, customers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Accounts Assistant Apprentice, you will have excellent attention to detail, strong numerical skills and a willingness to learn. You will be organised, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a busy team.

The role offers exposure to a broad range of finance activities, including:

  • Assisting with cashbook processing across the College group.
  • Processing online store transactions and resolving associated queries.
  • Processing card receipts, payments and petty cash claims.
  • Supporting both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Assisting with supplier invoices, payment runs and customer receipts.
  • Responding to finance queries from students, staff, parents and customers.
  • Supporting student cash counter duties and banking activities.
  • Processing journals and financial transfers.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting continuous improvement of finance processes.
  • Providing administrative support to the wider Finance Team and Head of Finance.

Start Date: The College operates 2 starter/induction days per month to welcome and onboard new members. These are usually the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a bank holiday).
