Job summary

The Royal Navy is seeking an experienced engineering professional to mentor the next generation of Royal Navy engineers, leveraging your career expertise without the need for prior teaching or military experience.

You will deliver practical training, supervise labs, administer exams, and maintain training materials as part of the Selborne training programme, contributing to smarter education for sailors and marines.

Qualifications

• Foundation Degree in Electrical Engineering or HND/FdSc in Electrical Engineering, or proven teaching/practical experience in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with electrical machines (DC motors/generators, AC motors/generators) and Three Phase AC systems.
• Classroom experience in adult education, ideally with a Level 4 teaching qualification.
• Experience of the Defence Systems Approach to Training (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Deliver training to groups of up to 24 trainees in Electrical engineering and related modules.
• Demonstrate practical electrical and machine concepts during lab sessions.
• Supervise trainee-led laboratory work aligned with module content.
• Administer and invigilate paper-based and online examinations.
• Mark and check-mark assessments to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Maintain and update training materials with Training Design staff.

What you'll be doing

• Delivering training to groups of up to 24 trainees in: Electrical engineering and machine principles (NVQ Level 4/5) and Basic electronics and mathematics (Level 2/3)
• Demonstrating practical electrical and machine concepts during lab sessions
• Supervising trainee-led laboratory work aligned with module content
• Administering and invigilated both paper-based and online examinations
• Marking and check-marking assessments to ensure accuracy and consistency
• Maintaining and updating training materials with Training Design staff
  You will have at least a Foundation Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related engineering discipline), or an HND/FdSc in Electrical Engineering or proven teaching/practical experience in Electrical Engineering, Experience in the theory and practical use of Electrical Machines (DC Motors/Generators, AC Motors/Generators) and Three Phase AC systems.
• Classroom experience in teaching technical subjects in an adult education environment, ideally with at least a Level 4 teaching qualification.
• Experience of the Defence Systems Approach to Training (or equivalent).
