Job summary

Capita leads the Selborne project at HMS Sultan, Portsmouth, delivering hands-on workshop training for fitting, turning, milling and general engineering skills. You’ll guide trainees, support learners toward recognised qualifications, and maintain workshop equipment with a strong emphasis on safety and practical learning.

This role requires hands-on engineering expertise and the ability to convey real-world experience to students, with full training and a funded teaching qualification provided.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship (or equivalent) in fitting/turning or mechanical engineering.
• Strong, recent hands-on workshop experience.
• Skills across machining, fitting, milling, grinding.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

HMS Sultan, Portsmouth

Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For

We're not looking for teachers - we're looking for engineers.

You’ll Need (essential)

• A recognised apprenticeship (or equivalent experience) in fitting/turning or mechanical engineering
• Strong, recent hands-on workshop experience
• Skills across machining, fitting, milling, grinding
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

Nice To Have (but Not Essential)

• Any experience coaching, mentoring or helping others learn
• CAD knowledge

What You’ll Get In Return

• Salary up to £42,000 (pro rata £41,265 term-time only)
• Term-time working (45 weeks) - enjoy extended breaks at Christmas, Easter & summer - The salary is pro rata'd and calculated to include contractual annual leave entitlement and bank holidays.
