Randstad Student Support is recruiting a Specialist Mentor for Mental Health to work with autistic students studying at universities and colleges.

The role begins at the start of the new academic year and is a hybrid position. All successful candidates must be able to travel to the local university or college and offer both in-person and online sessions to meet student preferences.

As a Specialist Mentor, you will act as a trusted advisor for students, supporting them throughout the academic year. Your role involves helping students reflect on their experiences and introducing strategies to overcome barriers.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Create strategies around organisation and time management
  2. Break down tasks to meet deadlines
  3. Help achieve a balance between study and daily living
  4. Assist in managing anxiety, stress, or low mood
  5. Prepare students for new experiences
  6. Build confidence and strengths to foster independence

You will need to consider individual student needs case by case, act professionally, maintain confidentiality, and share relevant information with Randstad to ensure the best support.

Requirements:

Hold membership with one of the following professional bodies, as supported by the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA):

  • BACP - British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • BPS - British Psychological Society
  • HCPC - Health and Care Professions Council
  • NCPS - National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
  • NMC - Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • SWE - Social Work England
  • SCW - Social Care Wales
  • UMHAN - University Mental Health Advisers Network
  • COSCA - Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland

Additional desirable skills include experience working with clients with disabilities or mental health conditions, excellent communication skills, ability to build professional relationships, punctuality, organisational skills, and caseload management.
