Job description

This role will initially be based in Bradford but our office will move to Leeds Valley Park in Summer 2026, so you will be based there in the future, with a hybrid working arrangement in place – a mix of office and home working. We work 3 days in the office per week.

Work type: This is a temporary fixed‑term opportunity for 12 months, with the potential for it to become a permanent role. Working full time 37 hours per week between a working window of 8:00 am–6:00 pm Monday‑Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Above Ground Triage Engineer to join the Triage, Planning and Scheduling team at Yorkshire Water and be part of help to provide the best service to our customers.

What we do

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this. We look after communities, protect the environment and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year.

We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity. New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers mean that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry.

The Triage, Planning and Scheduling team is a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. This is a key role in supporting our Above Ground Maintenance Modernisation, moving towards a more efficient, holistic and proactive approach to maintenance.

Where you fit in

As our Above Ground Triage Engineer, you will be:

  • Monitoring and managing work requiring triage, primarily via the new SAP S4 system, and processing based on priority.
  • Validating, prioritising and routing MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) work effectively to reduce bad demand.
  • Ensuring that the information provided meets safety & quality requirements and is accurately prioritised before routing to the next step in the process.
  • Identifying whether the work required is routine, building a clear plan of work.
  • Developing your own understanding of the waste and clean operations of Above Ground assets through on‑the‑job learning and utilising technical expertise to make appropriate course‑of‑action decisions and challenging and influencing stakeholders.
  • Driving excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management and control of work, including adherence to all company Management Procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Yorkshire Water Safety Policy by developing and maintaining a personal safety profile.
  • Making decisions on appropriate prioritisation of work across the proactive maintenance and reactive workbasket, considering the implications of these decisions on operational risk.
  • Reviewing maintenance jobs against risk and capacity, and making decisions about the most effective use of resources and the impact of not completing work, driving value for the whole asset maintenance lifecycle.
  • Ensuring a detailed resource plan to enable efficient scheduling effort.
  • Applying jeopardy management to the maintenance workbasket, identifying where jobs require intervention, and representing the triage team in company escalations.
  • Upskilling colleagues through diagnostic questioning and coaching.
