Job summary

Modis is recruiting a 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer for an onsite Derby role in a highly secure environment. You will operate within a Microsoft-based infrastructure, escalating complex issues and driving platform development while ensuring reliability and service excellence.

The role requires current SC clearance with DV eligibility and hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware and Exchange, in a security-conscious context. On-call duties are part of the package.

Qualifications

• Current SC Clearance with eligibility to undertake DV clearance.
• Proven experience in 3rd Line Infrastructure or Managed Services.
• Extensive Microsoft Windows Server administration.
• Strong Active Directory, GPOs, DNS, LDAP, Kerberos, delegation and trust.
• PowerShell scripting and automation.
• VMware and virtualization technologies.
• Experience with Exchange administration.
• PKI and certificate management.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert-level troubleshooting and incident resolution.
• Deliver solutions and workarounds to minimise service disruption.
• Support and maintain critical Windows Server environments.
• Manage and prioritise multiple technical tasks and projects.
• Collaborate closely with customers, stakeholders and wider technical teams.
• Review service performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support infrastructure deployments, upgrades and enhancements.
• Participate in an on-call support rota.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer to join a highly secure, enterprise-scale environment supporting business-critical services. This position offers the chance to work with cutting-edge Microsoft infrastructure technologies within a collaborative technical team, helping to maintain, improve and modernise a complex IT estate.

This role is ideal for a technically capable engineer who enjoys solving challenging infrastructure issues, contributing to technical projects and working within a security-conscious environment where reliability and service excellence are paramount.

The Role

As a 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer, you'll provide advanced support across a large-scale Microsoft-based infrastructure, acting as an escalation point for complex technical issues while supporting ongoing platform development and improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing expert-level troubleshooting and incident resolution.
• Delivering solutions and workarounds to minimise service disruption.

Skills & Experience Required

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate strong technical expertise combined with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Essential Experience

• Current SC Clearance with eligibility to undertake DV clearance.
• Proven experience operating in a 3rd Line Infrastructure or Managed Services environment.
• Extensive Microsoft Windows Server administration experience.
• Strong Active Directory expertise, including GPOs, DNS, LDAP, Kerberos, delegation and trust relationships.
• VMware and virtualisation technologies.
• Exchange administration.
• PKI and certificate management.
• PowerShell scripting and automation.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions
