Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire invites applications for a School Nurse assistant role within the school health service. You will support delivery of health promotion and screening for children and young people, following protocols and working under the supervision of qualified professionals.

The post is term-time and requires SVQ III in healthcare, teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to work unsupervised. IT literacy and a full UK driving licence are required.

The Role

The post holder is responsible for assisting the school nurse team with the delivery of a school health service meeting the identified physical and psycho-social needs of the children and young people working within agreed protocols to undertake and agreed range of duties supervised and unsupervised at the discretion of qualified professionals within the school nursing team.

This post is working Term-time.

In this key role, you will:

Following training and supervision carry out primary prevention and deliver health promotion as a means of improving the health of children and young people.

Carry out screening procedures within sphere of responsibility and report finding appropriately.

Take responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and others.

Planning and organising future workload in conjunction with caseload holder.

To contribute and participate in new community schools initiatives as appropriate.

To maintain accurate and up to date records.

Participate in person development planning and undertake the learning required to pride an effective service.

What You'll Bring:

• SVQ III in healthcare, or working towards, or equivalent experience working within a caring environment/role.
• Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary/agency team.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to carry out assigned patient care tasks effectively within a busy environment.
• Ability to work unsupervised.
• To actively participate in the Personal Development Plan process to fulfil the requirements of continuing professional development.
• Working knowledge of basic information technology
• A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
