Job Overview

Specialist Physiotherapist – Band 6 (2 Posts) – Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. 37 hours / Permanent contract. We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic Physiotherapists to join our Acute Medicine Physiotherapy Team within the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The posts will be based within the Acute Medical Unit within the RIE and will encompass both the Assessment Unit and the acute Inpatient wards. This post will be a key member of the physiotherapy team assessing patients very early after admission to hospital and providing a consistent approach to their physiotherapy management throughout their stay – following their inpatient journey to the point of discharge.

Key Responsibilities

Candidates must display evidence of excellent clinical reasoning with a very varied and complex caseload. You will demonstrate an advanced ability to prioritise and discharge plan for a wide range of presentations. You will have advanced assessment and rehabilitation skills and experience treating acutely unwell patients. You will have experience in service development and Quality Improvement methodology to support a proactive team involved in multidisciplinary projects. You will participate collaboratively with the teams across a range of organisational and professional topics as required. You will work a rota basis with a frequency of 1 in 8 weekends and 1 overnight on call per month. The physiotherapy service operates on a 5/7 basis. The role requires excellence in leadership and team working, providing senior clinician experience and developing leadership skills.

Qualifications

Advanced assessment and rehabilitation skills; experience within Band 5 rotations covering all core specialties; evidence of advanced clinical reasoning; ability to prioritise and discharge plan; experience of treating acutely unwell patients; experience in service development and Quality Improvement methodology.

Benefits and Working Hours

The post offers a 37‑hour contract with a 5/7 working pattern. Weekend rota: 1 in 8 weekends. Overnight on call: 1 per month. Full support for disabled candidates and neurodivergent candidates through reasonable adjustments.

Individuals must have the legal right to work in the UK or be eligible for sponsor via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa, with the employer licensed.
