Job description

Role Overview

A Site Engineer safely and effectively manages a set of tasks and is technically responsible for their outcome. Reporting directly to the Section Engineer, this role may include managing and supervising technicians or student engineers on site.

Our graduates work within the site engineering team under the guidance of Section and Senior Engineers, alongside site supervisors and managers. You will work predominantly on-site, assisting in the technical management and delivery of major construction projects.

Site Engineers are part of the Engineering Job Family and Technical Function, ensuring technical excellence, assurance, and performance across all projects from pre-project, early engagement, and work-winning through to detailed delivery. All engineers are part of our Engineering Enterprise, aligned with our strategy to maximize DFMA, Digital Engineering, and Early Engagement.

You will receive appropriate on- and off-the-job training to become an experienced Laing O'Rourke engineer.

A degree in Civil Engineering or a related construction discipline.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Apply LOR procedures consistently.
  2. Conduct dimensional control activities, including checks and transfer of setting out data from 2D CAD and Digital Engineering models.
  3. Interpret as-built surveys, verify compliance, produce reports, and ensure timely surveys.
  4. Extract tolerance data from specifications and apply appropriate setting out techniques.
  5. Follow project and company procedures on workmanship, quality, inspection, and testing.
  6. Understand properties and principles of relevant materials, products, and systems.
  7. Understand construction methods and record materials and resources used.
  8. Comply with Temporary Works procedures and understand the roles of Temporary Works Coordinator and Supervisor.
  9. Manage lifting operations procedures and responsibilities.
  10. Communicate effectively with the Design Manager and other team members.
  11. Support information and change control, maintain current drawings and specifications, and raise Technical Queries as needed.
  12. Be aware of site logistics and contribute to safe working procedures and environmental management.
  13. Ensure work is carried out safely, following method statements and task sheets, and deliver briefings accordingly.
