A government agency is seeking experienced Senior Paralegal Caseworkers in Birmingham to manage complex legal cases. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and independence in work. Grade: HEO • Salary: £35,335 – £37,847 • Contract Type: Permanent • Minimum Hours: 29 hours (minimum part‑time)
Location: Hybrid – home and cross‑site between Embankment House, Nottingham and Victoria Square House, Birmingham. Office attendance 40%.
The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) protects people in England and Wales who may not have the mental capacity to make certain decisions for themselves, such as about their health and finance. It is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Justice, set up in 2007 following the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act of 2005.
OPG registers lasting powers of attorney (LPA) and enduring powers of attorney (EPA) and supervises deputies appointed by the Court of Protection.

The multidisciplinary team of 70‑80 staff provides specialist legal services. It includes Senior Lawyers, Lawyers, Senior Paralegals, Paralegals, a Legal Support team and Legal Operations specialists.
The team has two principal functions:
The work is important, rewarding and challenging, ensuring timely action to prevent abuse. The team works well together across locations and offers progression for paralegals, including potential support to qualify as lawyers.
The post holder will be an experienced Paralegal who is confident and capable of working on complex cases and carrying out certain legal tasks independently. The Senior Paralegal role models the expected behaviours for all Paralegals and acts as a key link between Lawyers and Paralegals.
