Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust in Bournemouth/Poole area is seeking an Upper GI General Surgical Consultant on a 1-year fixed-term locum basis to cover maternity leave.

The successful candidate will join a team of Upper GI and Emergency Surgeons, performing elective UGI surgery and endoscopy across UHD sites, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernia repairs, with JAG accreditation in upper GI endoscopy.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
• FRCS or equivalent.
• JAG accredited endoscopist with experience in advanced endoscopic procedures (eg. Dilatations)
• Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date must be within 6 months), CESR or ECR
• Trained to manage the undifferentiated general surgical take
• Proficient in Upper GI endoscopy
• Appropriate training at StR level for general & UGI surgery

Responsibilities

• The post holder will take part in the acute surgical rota at the Bournemouth site on a 1 in 9 basis with internal cover.
• This runs on acute surgical blocks when all elective activity is cancelled.
• The appointee is expected to work across the UHD sites and be flexible in covering elective activity.
• The agreed job plan provides access to operating theatre for elective procedures, outpatient clinics, endoscopy lists, regional UGI MDT attendance, and SPA allocation.
