Job summary

Polaris Community is seeking a caring 1:1 Teaching Assistant in Leeds to support a young person with additional learning needs. You will build a consistent relationship, help access education, and foster independence while working with the class teacher and support team.

You will adapt approaches to individual needs, monitor progress, and coordinate with SEND professionals to ensure progress toward targets. Previous TA experience is valuable for this role.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar support role is valuable.
• Experience supporting children or young people in education or care is relevant.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day.
• Help the pupil access lessons and learning activities.
• Break tasks into manageable and achievable steps.
• Adapt resources and approaches to individual needs.
• Support communication, engagement and concentration.
• Develop organisation and independent learning skills.
• Encourage positive relationships and participation.
• Support individual learning plans and agreed targets.
• Monitor progress and share observations with teaching staff.
• Work with SEND professionals and therapists when appropriate.
• Encourage the pupil to work independently as much as possible.
