Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a caring and patient 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Nottingham on a long-term basis, starting September 2026.

The successful candidate will deliver dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with SEND, helping them access learning, develop independence and thrive within an inclusive school environment. Training and safeguarding procedures are in place to support your role.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support in a school setting is desirable.

1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School - Nottingham

Milk Education are recruiting for a caring, patient, and experienced 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Nottingham on a long-term basis, starting in September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and helping them to overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil, helping them to engage with their learning, develop their independence, and thrive within the school environment.

You’ll be joining a supportive team that is committed to providing an inclusive education where every child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

What You’ll Be Doing in the Role:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with SEND
  • Supporting the pupil to access learning and participate in classroom activities
  • Adapting resources and activities to meet individual needs
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Building a strong and trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Encouraging independence and confidence
  • Supporting communication and social development
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO
  • Implementing strategies and support plans in line with the pupil's needs
  • Supporting the pupil during lessons, break times, and other school activities
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to the wider school team
  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment
  • Following safeguarding and child protection procedures consistently

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • Experience providing 1:1 support in a school setting is desirable
  • Understanding of special educational needs and inclusive practice
  • A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils
