Unity Education Trust at Kings Oak Academy is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support a deaf pupil on a 1:1 basis. You will work with the class teacher and staff to support learning, communication and social development.

The role involves clear communication strategies, including visual supports and British Sign Language (BSL), to ensure the pupil can access learning and feel included in all aspects of school life.

Qualifications

  • Experience or interest in supporting children with SEND.
  • Experience with deaf pupils desirable but not essential.
  • Willingness to learn communication approaches for deaf children (e.g. BSL).
  • Patient, adaptable and proactive approach.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support tailored to the needs of a deaf pupil.
  • Support communication using strategies (BSL, visual cues, clear speech, gestures).
  • Assist with access to learning activities and classroom participation.
  • Promote inclusion, independence and confidence.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to individual needs.
