Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to work with a Year 1 pupil in a Gateshead primary school. You will help the pupil access learning, support behaviour strategies and emotional regulation, and build confidence in the classroom.

This role is ideal for a graduate interested in Psychology, Child Development or SEND, offering practical experience within a nurturing school environment.

Qualifications

• Calm, patient and able to support a pupil with behavioural and emotional needs.
• Warm and approachable, able to build trusting relationships with the pupil.
• Experience with children is desirable (tutoring, volunteering, mentoring, childcare).

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 classroom support for the pupil.
• Engage the pupil with learning activities throughout the day.
• Apply positive behaviour strategies to support learning.
• Support the pupil's emotional regulation throughout lessons.
• Encourage social development and peer interactions.
• Help build confidence and independence in the pupil.
• Promote positive communication with the pupil and staff.
• Develop a trusting, consistent relationship with the pupil.
