Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, experienced 1:1 SEND Science Tutor to provide personalised tuition to a student in Wokingham in person. You will adapt lessons to meet SEND needs, foster a calm, supportive learning environment and monitor progress while safeguarding and communicating with parents and school staff.

The role focuses on developing science knowledge, confidence and independence with tailored plans, regular feedback and collaboration with carers.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching or tutoring Science at secondary level.
• A good understanding of the Secondary Science curriculum.
• Experience working with SEND students.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
• Confidence supporting students who may have experienced barriers or difficulties within a traditional classroom environment.
• Ability to build trust and encourage students to develop confidence and independence.
• A genuine commitment to supporting the academic and wider development of young people.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
• The right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Providing one-to-one Science tuition tailored to the student’s individual needs and abilities.
• Supporting the student across relevant areas of the Secondary Science curriculum.
• Planning and delivering engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging lessons.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources, activities and pace to suit the student’s learning needs.
• Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support to help the student progress.
• Breaking down scientific concepts into clear and manageable steps.
• Developing the student’s scientific knowledge, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Supporting practical and theoretical aspects of Science where appropriate.
• Encouraging confidence, independence and a positive attitude towards learning.
• Helping the student overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.
• Supporting revision, study skills and assessment preparation where appropriate.
• Using the student’s interests and strengths to make learning engaging and relevant.
• Monitoring progress and providing regular, constructive feedback.
• Building a positive, consistent and trusting relationship with the student.
• Working collaboratively with parents/carers, schools and other professionals involved in the student’s education.
• Maintaining appropriate safeguarding and professional boundaries at all times.
