Job summary

Arthur Bugler Primary School in Thurrock is seeking a 1:1 SEND Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs, including autism. The role runs 30 hours 25 minutes per week during term-time plus inset days, with a start date January 2027 and a fixed end date 31 August 2027.

You will need NVQ qualifications or equivalent, a good standard of English and Maths, and experience or interest in supporting pupils with a range of needs.

Qualifications

• NVQ qualifications or equivalent.
• A good standard of English and Mathematics and basic computer skills.
• Experience or interest in supporting pupils with a range of needs e.g. Autism, ADHD, speech and / or language difficulties, cerebral palsy
• Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour
• Knowledge of successful strategies to engage pupils with specific and significant needs
• Experience of the EYFS and / or KS1 curriculum
• Flexible and adaptable with timetabling and the daily routines
• Excellent communication skills, and the ability to liaise with parents and relevant staff
• Experience in personal care
• Strong behaviour management skills
• Previous SEND experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Support children with learning needs on their journey.
• Assist in class and 1:1 settings to enable pupils to access the curriculum.
• Apply rules consistently and de‑escalate challenging behaviour when needed.
• Liaise with parents and school staff to track progress and needs.
