Job summary

Smile Education is recruiting for an SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs in a Solihull secondary school. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to aid learning, communication, and engagement while prioritising safeguarding.

The role requires a patient, calm, and compassionate approach with the ability to build trust and support emotional regulation.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN.
• Experience in a secondary school setting is desirable.
• Patient, calm and compassionate approach.
• Confidence supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis.
• Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
• Comfortable undertaking intimate/personal care if required.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to a secondary-aged pupil with additional needs.
• Support the pupil with learning, communication, confidence and engagement.
• Help the pupil access lessons and participate positively in school life.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour where required.
• Intimate/personal care may be required depending on the pupil's needs.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team.
• Build a trusting, consistent and positive relationship with the pupil.
• Follow individual support plans and safeguarding procedures.
