Job summary

GSL Education in Oldham is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with Autism. This full-time, long-term role requires building trust, enabling access to learning and ensuring the pupil feels settled throughout the day.

Qualifications

Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ideally 1:1.
Experience in a primary school, ideally KS2.
NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) for Teaching Assistants or equivalent.
Calm, patient and consistent approach, with the ability to build trust.
Willingness to undertake SEND training when required.
Fluent spoken English essential.

Responsibilities

Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with Autism, under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO.
Build a positive, trusting relationship to support engagement, communication and emotional regulation.
Support the pupil to access whole-class learning, adapting tasks and resources as needed.
Support progress towards EHCP or SEND plan targets, feeding back to the class teacher and SENCO.
Use strategies such as visual timetables, sensory regulation, structured routines and Zones of Regulation.
Attend to transitions and unstructured times, including playtime and lunchtime.
Recognise early signs of anxiety or dysregulation and use de-escalation strategies.
