Job summary

AP Education is seeking a Functional Skills Tutor (1:1 Support) in Hatfield Peverel to work with learners with SEND/SEMH needs. You will deliver Functional Skills content and provide a therapeutic, flexible approach to education aligned with individual plans.

You will conduct baseline assessments, maintain progress records, and collaborate with SALT/OT/social workers as part of a multi-agency team. Term-time hours are available, with up to 30 hours per week and a pay rate of £20-£25 per hour.

Qualifications

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring children with SEND/SEMH requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills curriculum is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Functional Skills Curriculum or SEND-specific content.
• Implement positive behaviour strategies and a patient approach.
• Provide therapeutic, adaptable education tailored to each learner.
• Perform baseline academic and emotional assessments to inform support.
• Prepare progress reports and liaise with external professionals as needed.
• Manage attendance reporting via attendance software.
• Assist learners in transitioning to mainstream or specialist settings.
