Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a KS1 boy with ASD and social, emotional and behavioural needs in Knottingley, Wakefield. This full-time, term-time role offers ongoing development and a supportive school team.

You will provide targeted 1:1 support, implement behaviour plans, and collaborate with teachers and the SENCO to ensure consistent strategies and progress.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
• Experience supporting children who display behaviours that challenge.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach with ability to stay composed in challenging situations.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Understanding of positive behaviour support, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
• Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil to promote engagement and emotional wellbeing.
• Support the implementation of individual learning and behaviour support plans.
• Use positive behaviour support strategies to help the pupil regulate emotions and manage challenging behaviour safely.
• Encourage communication, social interaction, independence, and confidence.
• Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, parents/carers, and external professionals to ensure a consistent approach.
• Record observations, monitor progress, and contribute to review meetings where appropriate.
• Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
