EPEX SPOT is seeking a Tax Manager to lead tax strategy, governance, and advisory activities across jurisdictions. Reporting to the CFO, you will guide senior management, optimize tax opportunities, and ensure regulatory compliance in an international context.

This standalone role requires strong technical expertise, proactive risk management, and the ability to translate complex tax matters into practical business solutions.

Qualifications

Job description

The Tax Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing EPEX SPOT’s tax strategy, compliance, governance, and advisory activities across all jurisdictions where EPEX SPOT operates. This is a standalone expert role without direct team management responsibilities, ensuring full compliance with tax regulations while identifying optimization opportunities aligned with the company's business objectives and regulatory framework.

As a trusted business partner reporting directly to the CFO, the Tax Manager provides strategic and operational tax guidance to senior management and key stakeholders, engages in several activities with the Group, supporting business growth, corporate initiatives and organizational transformation. The position requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, proactive risk management, and the ability to translate complex tax matters into practical business solutions in an international environment.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure the Group's tax obligations are fulfilled accurately, timely and consistently across jurisdictions.

• Oversee corporate tax, indirect tax and withholding tax compliance
• Maintain effective tax governance processes and controls
• Ensure compliance with transfer pricing regulations
• Manage tax reporting and documentation standards
• Coordinate tax matters with internal and external stakeholders

Identify and implement tax opportunities that support business objectives while maintaining compliance.

• Develop tax planning strategies aligned with Group objectives
• Optimize the use of available tax incentives and tax regimes
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains
• Support the continuous enhancement of the tax operating model
• Review and optimize insourcing vs outsourcing of tax activities, and work in proximity with tax service providers

3. Provide Strategic Business Partnering

Act as a trusted advisor to the business on tax-related matters.

• Provide practical tax guidance to management and stakeholders
• Management of intercompany and group tax matters and tax controls
• Support decision-making through proactive tax assessments and own transfer pricing framework
• Partner with Finance, Legal and Business teams on strategic initiatives
• Translate complex tax matters into business-oriented recommendations

4. Manage Tax Risks & Regulatory Developments

Ensure the organization remains prepared for regulatory changes and emerging tax risks.

• Monitor developments in tax legislation across relevant jurisdictions
• Evaluate the impact of regulatory changes on business activities
• Develop action plans and implementation roadmaps
• Promote awareness of tax risks and compliance requirements

5. Lead Tax Audits & Authority Relationships

Represent the company in interactions with tax authorities and external advisors.

• Manage tax audits, investigations and reviews
• Coordinate tax claims and tax rulings
• Build constructive relationships with tax authorities
• Ensure appropriate resolution of tax disputes and inquiries

Promote excellence, consistency and knowledge management within the organization.

• Maintain robust tax documentation and record-keeping standards
• Develop tax awareness among key stakeholders
• Ensure knowledge sharing and best-practice implementation
• Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives

7. Finance Transformation & Process Excellence

• Drive tax automation and digitalization where possible, as well as support finance transformation projects
• Improve SAP and finance process tax controls

Key requirements

Hard Skills

• Strong expertise across direct and indirect taxation
• In-depth knowledge of international tax matters and transfer pricing; in-depth knowledge of French tax matters would be an advantage
• Proven experience managing tax compliance within multinational organizations
• Ability to assess regulatory developments and translate them into practical actions
• Business partner, not only a compliance expert
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Able to balance technical excellence with business needs

Location:

Your work location will preferably be Paris, with no specific restriction amongst other EPEX office locations and an attractive hybrid work policy.
