Job summary

Qonto is seeking a Staff Applied AI Engineer, Backend to build production AI systems that support the Anti-Financial Crime teams. You will design agentic workflows, own projects end-to-end, and ensure robust backend foundations around evolving AI models.

You will work in a highly autonomous environment with direct collaboration with AFC stakeholders, focusing on measurable outcomes, reliability, and scalable AI automation within a regulated domain.

Qualifications

• Production AI experience ships an AI agent or agentic workflow used by real users and explains its orchestration, tool use, state, outputs, evaluation, retries, and failure modes.
• Strong backend engineering across architecture, APIs, databases, integrations, reliability, observability, maintainability, scalability.
• Staff-level autonomy and judgement with independent decision-making and clear trade-off communication.
• Product and stakeholder thinking to convert operational pain into valuable solutions without a PM.
• End-to-end ownership: discover, build, ship, operate, maintain and improve systems.
• Learning agility to ramp quickly in AFC/regulatory domains; fintech knowledge helpful.
• Pragmatic technology choices; knowledge of Python and model providers or agent frameworks is useful.

Responsibilities

• Build production AI systems and agentic workflows that gather context, orchestrate models, parse outputs, and handle uncertainty safely.
• Own projects end-to-end from discovery with AFC stakeholders to architecture decisions and production launch, including maintenance.
• Design robust backend foundations: services, APIs, databases, and integrations around evolving AI models.
• Define evaluation, observability, fallbacks, and human-review processes; monitor quality and throughput.
• Deliver measurable operational value by reducing investigation lead time and expanding automation across AFC workflows.
• Shape the team's technical direction and raise production capability in agentic systems.
