Job summary

Lever, Inc. is seeking a Staff Research Scientist – Interactive Avatars in France for a senior role at the forefront of generative AI. You will shape the direction of dyadic interaction research, build multimodal avatar systems, and mentor a team of researchers.

This role emphasizes production-ready research and cross-functional collaboration. You will work on diffusion-based video/avatar generation, perceptual understanding of audio/video, and conversational behaviors.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in machine learning with hands-on diffusion model work, preferably for video/avatar generation.
• Strong publication record or demonstrable research impact.
• Experience leading small research teams and mentoring juniors.
• Ability to take concepts from idea to production.

Responsibilities

• Define research direction and roadmap for dyadic interaction modeling.
• Advance perceptual capabilities of interactive AI agents (audio/video understanding).
• Develop multimodal models for rich, natural interactions from audio/video inputs.
• Extend diffusion models with conversational conditioning signals.
• Research and develop models for natural conversational behaviors (gaze, expressions).
• Design evaluation frameworks and benchmarks for interaction quality.
• Collaborate with data specialists to shape high-quality datasets.
• Lead technical decisions across research, data, and engineering.
• Mentor researchers and drive research culture.
• Drive projects from hypothesis to production and product impact.
• Communicate results clearly to research and cross-functional teams.
