Job summary

The ESRF, Europe’s premier synchrotron facility in Grenoble, seeks a Mechanical Engineer for scientific equipment to design and oversee high-precision beamline components and accelerator hardware. You will work with senior engineers on opto-mechanics, vacuum and cooling systems, ensuring robust delivery from concept to commissioning.

Expect autonomy, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a role that evolves toward leading complete projects for ESRF beamlines.

Qualifications

• 7 to 10 years of relevant professional experience.
• Solid skills in drafting, mechanical design, and engineering calculations.
• Proficiency in mechanical CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks).
• Strong interest in scientific instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out feasibility studies and mechanical design studies for beamlines and accelerators.
• Carry out engineering calculations.
• Supervise production of detailed mechanical drawings and coordinate procurement, manufacturing, testing and installation up to commissioning.
• Follow up installation of major mechanical equipment with other ESRF services.
