The ESRF in Grenoble is seeking a technically skilled technician to join the Collaborative Research Group (CRG) Liaison Office. You will support operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of state-of-the-art beamlines built in partnership with external research institutes.

Under the supervision of the Liaison Engineer, you will monitor intervention requests, coordinate with mechanics, electronics, detectors and contractors, maintain the equipment inventory and document activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level technical qualification (2–3 years of higher education).
  • Experience in installation, maintenance or operation of technical or scientific equipment.
  • Good organisational, communication and coordination skills.
  • Practical, problem-solving approach with willingness to learn; interest in mechanics, electronics, instrumentation and computing.

Responsabilités

Context & Job Description

You will join the Collaborative Research Group (CRG) Liaison Office and work closely with beamline teams, ESRF technical support groups and external partners to support the operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of state-of-the-art beamlines operated in partnership with external research institutes.

Working as part of a team under the supervision of the Liaison Engineer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and following up on technical intervention requests.
  • Interacting with ESRF support groups (mechanics, electronics, detectors, sample environment, etc.) and external contractors to ensure the successful completion of assigned tasks.
  • Maintaining the equipment inventory.
  • Providing hands‑on technical support for the CRG beamlines and preparing related technical documentation.
  • Participating in regular meetings with the CRG beamlines and instrument teams.
Expected profile

You are a technician with a background in instrumentation, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, electronics, mechanical engineering or a related technical field. You enjoy working in a multidisciplinary scientific environment where you can combine hands‑on technical work with coordination activities.

You Have
  • A technical qualification at Bachelor level (2–3 years of higher education).
  • Initial experience in the installation, maintenance or operation of technical or scientific equipment.
  • Good organisational, communication and coordination skills.
  • A practical, problem‑solving approach and a willingness to learn.
  • An interest in working with a wide range of technologies, including mechanics, electronics, instrumentation and computing.

Experience gained in a research laboratory, scientific facility or complex industrial environment would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Working conditions

Permanent contract.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
