ESRF - The European Synchrotron in Grenoble, France, seeks a Senior FPGA Engineer to lead the development of FPGA-based instrumentation across the accelerator complex and beamlines. You will own architecture, RTL design, verification and deployment, working with experts in electronics, software, controls and accelerator physics.

The role emphasizes real-time data acquisition, deterministic control and high-speed interfaces, with ownership of complex developments and a roadmap for FPGA practices

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline; PhD is advantageous.
  • 10+ years of FPGA design, architecture, verification and deployment.
  • Strong timing closure, clock domain crossing and high-speed digital design.
  • Experience with data acquisition, DSP, embedded control or real-time instrumentation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills; English proficiency.

Responsabilités

  • Design and develop FPGA architectures for real-time instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Verify, optimise and ensure timing closure and deterministic behaviour.
  • Collaborate with electronics, embedded software and controls teams on system architecture.
  • Lead technical activities within multidisciplinary projects and provide guidance.
  • Support integration, commissioning and long-term maintenance of FPGA-based systems.
  • Promote reusable FPGA IP, design reviews and robust development practices.
  • Explore new FPGA technologies and contribute to the electronics roadmap.
