Royal Caribbean Group, a leading cruise line, seeks a Senior Expert HVAC to lead development and qualification of shipboard HVAC systems and energy concepts. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams across suppliers, shipyards and internal groups to integrate cutting-edge HVAC technology on newbuilds and retrofits.

• Extensive experience in newbuilding marine engineering technologies.
• Knowledge of SOLAS, IMO and other relevant regulations.
• Excellent written & spoken English; other languages are a plus.
• Strong communication skills to manage suppliers, partners and remote teams.
• Ability to lead multiple concurrent projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.

POSITION SUMMARY

Within RCL's Marine Technology department, the Senior Superintendent, or Senior Expert HVAC actively contributes to the development and qualification of complex mechanical systems onboard cruise ships. As a leading technical expert, he participates in the development plan for technical AC systems aimed at achieving our corporate net-zero emission target. He coordinates the various project phases: technologies and regulatory surveillance, feasibility studies, verification/qualification processes, and field follow-up. The Senior HVAC Superintendent supports also the implementation of technologies within projects and therefore works closely with equipment suppliers, integrators/shipyards, and the RCL Newbuilding and Innovation teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

TECHNICAL SYSTEMS STUDIES

• Supports NB project teams in specific technological systems and disciplines
• Ensures technology surveillance and regulatory surveillance within his scope of expertise
• Participates on the development of HVAC systems and energy concepts, for example on the development and implementation of AC new technologies and related automation and control system, on the correct integration of the systems on board cruise ships and similar developments
• Actively coordinates the different phases of the development project plan
• Participates to definition, feasibility studies, follow up and approval process of ships HVAC systems, and related energy impact during the design, building and tests phases
• Contributes to risk assessment processes of novel technologies and solutions
• Builds and maintains closed collaboration with our pool of experts in the different European teams (Maritime Technology, Project and Decarb teams)
• Applies relevant rules and regulations in the development of cruise ship design and building, including evaluation and implementation of new technology
• Assesses and advises specifications, measurements, and calculations relevant to ship design
• Studies, compares, assesses, and shares statistical information and analyses across various ships and areas bringing forth observations
• Develops and prepares reports and records related to assignments or projects
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant maritime industry and technical research and projects; seeks information and evaluates new technology with knowledge experts and suppliers
• Supports technical specifications elaboration during the concept phase which can be subcontracted
• Elaborates technical reports providing guidance on technical development and future technologies
• Participates and coordinates in new build approval processes such as drawing, makers and design approvals.

TECHNICAL SYSTEMS QUALIFICATION AND TESTS

• Works with the suppliers and integrators to ensure proper qualification process establishment
• Supports with all relevant risks assessments process (NTQ, FMECA, Hazid/Hazop, etc)
• Participates to projects reviews and supports various tasks with related Technical Managers
• Participates to FAT, HAT and SAT when relevant
• Elaborates field follow up plan with Marine Operation and equipment suppliers
• Works in close relation with Marine Operation for ships in service

OTHERS

• Participates to risks management process for new technologies qualification and applies internal process how to identify risks properly at early stage of project
• Prepares presentations, supporting documents, e.g. simplified drawings, to improve the understanding by others
• Considering the position and role, the employee is required to perform reasonable and temporally any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management

QUALIFICATIONS

• Applicable education for the field of expertise
• Extensive experience in the area of newbuilding marine engineering technologies.
• Knowledge of ship systems and technologies behind the systems.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
• In-depth knowledge of SOLAS, IMO and other relevant regulations.
• Excellent written & verbal English, other languages as an advantage.
• High level communications skills. Ability proactively to create and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, development partners and with remote based team and colleagues.
• Independent and self-oriented skills to lead simultaneous projects.
