Job summary

Icarus Swarms is hiring a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Bordeaux to own critical onboard software for drone swarms. You will design and optimize embedded C/C++ software on embedded Linux/RTOS, integrate the flight stack (PX4/ArduPilot) with MAVLink interfaces, and develop drivers for sensors and radios.

You will mentor juniors and participate in architecture reviews, with regular travel to client sites in Europe, Asia, and North America.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Engineering degree or Master’s in embedded systems, computer science, electronics or robotics.
• Excellent C and modern C++ skills; Python for tooling and testing.
• Solid experience with embedded Linux (Yocto/Buildroot, cross-compilation, kernel/driver basics) and/or RTOS.
• Fluent English; French is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimize embedded software in C/C++ on embedded Linux and real-time targets.
• Integrate and extend the flight stack (PX4/ArduPilot) and interfaces (MAVLink, uORB, DDS).
• Develop low-level drivers for sensors, payloads, and radios (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
• Contribute to swarm communication (mesh networking, latency, robustness) and security.
• Set up testing: unit tests, HIL, SIL, and flight tests; travel for client demonstrations.
