Job summary

Datadog, Inc. is seeking a senior backend engineer at our Paris hub to own and grow the signal processing domain. You will design, build, and operate scalable backend systems applying signal finding models for internal data science teams and external customers.

You will own Kafka and Flink end to end, collaborating with data scientists to convert models into robust production workflows, while improving scalability, observability, and reliability of data pipelines in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Significant backend engineering experience building and operating distributed systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka and Flink, including designing or improving data processing pipelines at scale.
• Ability to reason through tradeoffs in throughput, latency, reliability, and maintainability and turn those decisions into clear designs and working code.
• Enjoy collaborating with data scientists and engineering partners to translate requirements into dependable systems.
• Take ownership of a technical area while mentoring teammates and sharing context.
• Curious about using AI tools to improve software building and able to evaluate output critically.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems that apply signal finding models at scale for internal data science teams and external customers.
• Own Kafka and Flink components end to end, from architecture and implementation through production reliability, performance, and evolution.
• Partner with data scientists to turn models and signal requirements into robust production workflows.
• Improve the scalability, observability, and operational resilience of data processing systems as usage grows.
• Lead technical decisions in your domain, collaborate across engineering teams, and mentor other engineers.
