Job summary

Datadog seeks a senior backend engineer to own and grow the observability space from our Paris hub. You will design, build, and operate backend systems applying signal finding models at scale for internal data science teams and external customers.

You will own Kafka and Flink end to end, collaborate with data scientists to create robust production workflows, and mentor teammates while improving scalability and reliability of data processing systems.

Qualifications

• Significant backend engineering experience building and operating distributed systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka and Flink, including designing or improving data processing pipelines at scale.
• Ability to reason through tradeoffs in throughput, latency, reliability, and maintainability, and translate decisions into designs and code.
• Enjoys collaborating with data scientists and engineering partners to translate open-ended requirements into dependable systems.
• Can take ownership of a technical area while mentoring teammates and sharing context.
• Curious about using AI tools to improve software development and able to evaluate their output critically.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the backend systems that apply signal finding models at scale for internal data science teams and external customers.
• Own Kafka and Flink components end to end, from architecture through production reliability and evolution.
• Partner with data scientists to turn models and signal requirements into robust production workflows.
• Improve scalability, observability, and operational resilience of data processing systems as usage grows.
• Lead technical decisions in your domain and help other engineers grow through design reviews and mentorship.
