State of North Carolina Department of Transportation in New Bern Construction Office is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer. The role supports day‑to‑day management, contract administration, and field inspections of roadway, utility, and structure projects.

You will assist the Resident Engineer, supervise technicians, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements. Excellent communication and engineering judgment are essential in this field environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify.
• May require professional engineer licensure by NC Board of Examiners.
• Experience with highway construction projects and inspections.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both oral and written.

Responsabilités

• Assist the Resident Engineer in day‑to‑day management and contract administration.
• Perform project field inspections and prepare monthly/final pay estimates.
• Review and evaluate supplemental agreements and claims.
• Ensure compliance with erosion control and permit requirements.
• Serve as DOT project representative in meetings with contractors and officials.
• Supervise lower‑level technicians on the project.
