Cayetteville, NC-based Cape Fear Valley Medical Center seeks an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide professional nursing care in the Emergency Department. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, and assume charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.

Candidates should hold an NC RN license (or compact) with 3–4 years of related clinical experience preferred; a BSN is preferred. New graduates are welcomed and supported to develop in a busy ED setting.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in nursing is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred.
• Current North Carolina RN licensure or compact state licensure is required.

Summary

• Assesses the patient and identifies patient care needs
• Uses patient assessment information to organize appropriate patient care
• Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates patient care
• Facilitates a safe environment
• Maintains required competencies
• Functions as charge nurse as assigned
• Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care
• Administers medication as ordered by physician
• Recognizes life threatening situations and responds appropriately
• Establishes collaborative interdisciplinary relationships with other Health System staff and medical staff
• Monitors the quality of care based on pre-established outcome-oriented indicators
• Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services
• Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients
• Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of medical regimen
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training

• Associate’s degree in nursing required
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
• Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure

Unit Description:

• Main Emergency Department is a 64-bed adult level III trauma unit. Working on a track schedule.
• Patient ratio 1:3.
• Our Care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistant’s, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Physicians, Physician’s Assistant, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians and Occupational and Speech Therapists, Charge Nurses
• New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome!

• 3-4 years of related clinical experience preferred
• Asthma exacerbations
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis
• Fever
• Seizures
• Sickle Cell Crisis
• Respiratory Complaints (RSV, pneumonia)
• Sepsis
• Syncope, near syncope
• Post op complaints
• Ear Infections
• Appendicitis
• Trauma-related injuries
• Lacerations
• Procedural Sedations
• Abuse and Sexual Assaults
• Strep throat & Tonsillitis
• Abdominal pain
• Various related emergencies pertaining to adults

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
• Verbal and written skills required
• Demonstrates effective organizational and leadership skills
• Has knowledge of the age-specific physiological and psychosocial, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served

Physical Requirements

• Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
• Visual acuity for observation of patients
• Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
• May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
