ALTA Performance Materials France SAS is seeking a Process Engineer to lead safety-driven process improvements in our French operations. You will ensure strict adherence to SHE standards, participate in incident investigations, and support continuous improvement initiatives across production lines.

The role requires an engineering degree (chemistry/chemical engineering), 1+ year in a chemical setting, fluent English, and experience with Six Sigma and data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree, preferably in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a similar position within the chemical industry.
  • Fluent English.
  • Experience with Six Sigma and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management.

Responsabilités

  • Ensure safety is the site's top priority; stop unsafe work and alert leadership.
  • Develop and sustain a strong safety culture per ALTA standards and regulations.
  • Investigate incidents, including near misses, and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Maintain procedures and work instructions within area of responsibility; update as needed.
  • Provide technical support for production improvements and capacity planning.

Responsibilities
SHE (Safety, Health & Environment)
  • Ensure that safety is the site's number one priority; stop any work whenever a situation is unsafe.
  • Develop and sustain a strong safety culture for employees and contractors by complying with and enforcing SHE regulations and ALTA standards (20 Principles, AGNs, Life Saving Rules, etc.) and ensure procedures and training programmes comply with these standards and regulations.
  • Ensure that all incidents, including near misses, are reported, investigated, and that corrective actions are tracked through closure within their area of responsibility.
  • Ensure the definition and execution of the audit program, including Behaviour‑Based Safety (BBS) activities.
  • Intervene directly when individuals are not following rules and procedures. Stop working whenever unsafe conditions exist and immediately inform the Team Leader and/or Department Manager.
  • Ensure that the Management of Change (MOC) processes are completed in accordance with procedures. Responsible for organisational MOCs.
  • Ensure compliance within their area of responsibility with the Asset Care / 5S programme.
Process
  • Ensure that procedures and work instructions are maintained and updated within their area of responsibility.
  • Ensure achievement of plant quality objectives (FTR, non‑conforming products, customer complaints, etc.). Investigate and implement corrective actions for non‑conforming products and customer complaints.
  • Develop and maintain a continuous improvement plan focused on production processes and quality parameters (cycle time, OEE, yields, utility consumption, reliability, FTR, etc.), including methodologies for tracking and implementing improvement ideas.
  • Provide technical support for special requirements such as raw material approvals, capital projects (CapEx), etc.
  • Make prompt decisions to resolve technical issues.
  • Support operations in identifying resource and equipment needs and ensuring effective capacity planning.
Required Profile
Knowledge / Education / Experience
  • Engineering degree, preferably in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a similar position within the chemical industry.
  • Fluent English.
Technical Skills
  • Experience in defining and achieving objectives, including under tight deadlines.
  • Problem‑solving skills using structured methodologies (Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Good understanding of Process Safety Management.
  • Experience with databases and SAP.
  • Manufacturing cost management.
  • Ability to prioritise and allocate human, financial, and technical resources according to business strategy.
  • Ability to select and arbitrate technical choices regarding equipment, plant layout, and methods.
  • Design modifications to existing processes and installation of new equipment.
  • Lead and manage industrial development projects.
  • Define and select equipment, production rates, and material flows.
  • Evaluate return on investment for implemented projects.
  • Assess the impact of introducing new product lines on processes and work organisation.
  • Interpret data and key indicators using statistical and digital tools.
  • Optimise and industrialise manufacturing processes.
  • Standardise testing technologies in development and production.
  • Work effectively in teams and networks.
  • Apply auditing techniques.
